The Energy Matrix in Argentina

According to official data, approximately 60% of electricity generation comes from natural gas, followed by oil and coal. However, in recent years, the country has made significant progress in incorporating renewable energy sources, reaching nearly 15% of total electricity generation from wind, solar, and hydro sources.

According to Our World in Data, the energy substitution method helps analyze how much renewable energy would be required to replace fossil fuel generation with equivalent efficiency. In line with Law 27.191, by December 31, 2025, companies operating in Argentina that consume more than 300 kW of electricity must ensure that at least 20% of their energy comes from renewable sources. Launched in 2015, this initiative aims to drive the energy transition by increasing the share of renewable sources in business productivity while ensuring sustainable energy consumption.
